Things that have happened

1. Geoff's birthday party: We dressed up in 50's clothes (well as close as we could come) and went down to the State Street Diner and we all had yummy food and milkshakes. I got raspberry pancakes, scrambled eggs and a chocolate milkshake. Yummmm
2. Service Learning: For the last four Saturdays I've been going down to Titus Towers (housing community for older people) for my Introduction to Aging Studies class. The first time we went was kind of weird and new but we got little slips of paper with a discussion topic on it (i.e. mine was "Talk about a fist date you had") and wen went around the room to different residents and talked to them. I heard a lot of really interesting stories and shared some experiences of my own. We got to know the residents, the people in my class, and the people in the other section of my teacher's class that were doing the service learning too. It was really cool. The next session we planted flowers, seeds, and bulbs. I helped my Titus resident Betty plant tomato seeds and we also got a iris bulb for her apartment. It was really funny because she kept saying she didn't want to touch the soil because it was dirty. But she was really nice- she told us how excited she was to have gone to Arizona last week to see her new (and first) grandson. The next session we played games. I played with a resident named Hattie (I love this woman- the first session she insisted we needed a dance party- more specifically a "booty shaking contest") and she taught us a card game. After we went on a tour around Titus made by a resident named Jimmy, I played Uno with two other Titus residents Ruth and Emma, along with Marcos and Pooja (who are in my Aging class). The last session was this weekend- we had of course a booty shaking contest and we had some people doing karaoke. I almost did but I chickened out at the last minute. Although I did indeed shake my booty. And I also brought my sketchbook to draw in but I ended up just talking. But when I brought it out at the end, I got a lot of people surrounding my table complementing my art skills. It was really nice.
3. Bonding. The Ithaca family has been doing some shenanigans indeed. On top of hanging out, watching movies, and playing some silly games like poker where we bet things like our knowledge of something or a talent of some sort, to throwing hard boiled eggs down a hill and seeing whose could make it to the bottom (no one-- me and Joe got pretty close) the fam has been pretty tight. Before Easter we all (well, except for Christina because she went home) went to Wegmans and got breads, cheeses, fruit, veggies, cold cuts, Morning Star stuff for me, basil, and garlic. On Easter we made a feast of all our yummy foods and it was definitely the best meal we all had in awhile. After we ate, we dyed eggs and decided we all needed to work on respective projects and papers so we had a study party in the library.
4. Scheduling. We just signed up with classes for next year and I got everything I wanted- but I need to get an override form from the dean to take another Intro to Poetry class. The whole thing was really frustrating because I had to email like 4 people to find out what the registration error meant on homerconnect when finally someone at the resister's office had the answer for me. And then more emailing to get the right person to override the form for me and to the teacher to let him know I was trying to the class. All in all it worked out and I'll get in the class on Monday but it was rather annoying and my inbox is now filled with messages about scheduling. I'm also attempting to learn American Sign Language which is somehow limited to Speech and Pathology majors/ minors but I emailed the teacher to see if I can still get in and I'm waiting for a reply.
So my schedule is as follows:
MWF
Intro to Poetry
Medieval Literature
Math for Decision Making
American Sign Language (actually only MW)
TR
Academic Writing I
Education and Society
So yah, soild scedule. I might die a little from overload of classes but if it's a problem I'll drop something. I think I'll be ok though because I've been good at getting things done on time and still have free time. So I might up the hours of work time.
4. Work? I may have a mail room job (aka sorting, giving out packages, etc) for next year the lady emailed me and asked when it would be a good time to do an interview so I told her Tuesday this up coming week. So waiting to hear more but I would like the money. And I can always do work when I'm waiting around for people to come. We'll see.
Also: I'm on the street team of my favoritest site ever: ModCloth
This means that I get to leave feedback and spread the word of the awesomness of the site. Which shouldn't be hard because I've gotten a few friends here really addicted to it too. I love their clothes. I wish I had enough money to buy all their stuff I like. I do own a jacket and a pair of boots from their store though. I love them so :)
5. WARMTH?! It's been sunny and 60's for the past 3 days. On Friday we sat by the fountains (which are now working!!) and we read and talked and watched the fountain. It was a good time. Until I realized I was all sunburned. My skin wasn't used to all the sunny goodness.
6. TWO WEEKS LEFT. ACCCKKK. I have some papers to do, things to study for, lots of reading, but overall I feel pretty good about my finals. Well I'll probably be stressing out next week but we have a take-home final for American Literture which should be ok, Stars final should be fine if I study well, Media Literacy final I don't have to take if I'm ok with my final score at the end so if I do well on the project we're working on now in groups I think it will be just dandy. I'm not sure what we have for Global Studies, but probably one last paper. And for Aging, we have a final on Monday that's only on the section that we're on right now and with some studying over the weekend (which should be easy because not a whole lot of people will be here so more time to cncentrate). So really feeling ok but it's still some work I have to put into it. Ugh, I'm pretty ready for break. Even though my life will be pretty much spent at Regal. Whhooohoo. :D

Breakin it up and puttin iit back together again

So before break, the gang hung out in Rowland just talking, dancing, having fun and whatnot. On Friday, Hinzy, Joe, me and two other guys from Eastman went downtown to get food and found ourselves at Lost Dog, a magical place indeed. We had a glorious dinner and went back to IC to put on warmer clothes and then met up to go to the playground where we sat/ swung and talked for awhile before getting a little freaked by the dark and went back to Boothroyd. I am so jealous of their big rooms of doom. It's so nice there. Joe and Micheal seranded us with Joe's guitar and we talked more, and watched Across the Universe. Joe and Hinzy came back to Rowland after and we talked a little more and we soon crashed. In the morning, Joe left, I gave him a hugsy and Hinzy helped him pack. I stayed in Rowland and Hinzy came back a little later and we slept a little longer. We got up about 9ish and we made eggs and frech toast and we watched Firefly until our respective rides called (which was almost exactly the same time). We bid farewell and I met Olivia's mom (my ride) and we went on our way. The whole ride was kind of awkward because Olivia got in trouble whilst on campus, and her mom and her were talking about it and other things that weren't really my business so I put in my iPod, listened to Jane Austen and slept. On Sunday the rents Grandpa, and I went to see the the Flower Show which is always a good time. I hung out for most of the time but I did get to see Watchmen, saw Vilebred- the band my friend Sam from work is in it, always a good time. Best part though was the last day me and K-bo went to Chinatown, shopped around and talked. :D

Julie is...

1. Procrastinating.
2. Obnoxiously ready for spring break. Really, I miss people back home like no one's business.
3. Concerned. I love you K-bo <3
4. Eating chocolate pretzels. SO GOOD.
5. Ready to go kickboxing. I <3 Mondays and Thursdays.
6. NOT ready for midterms. But I don't have them till Friday.. so I think it's really fine.
7. Professing to the world that they can't see her poker face.
8. Not enjoying the cold weather. I thought it was supposed to be spring. What happened those two glorious days of 40's? (yes, that IS warm here)
9. Loving : Spike and Angel (from Buffy), David Tennant, Slumdog Millionaire (I watched it on Sunday and it rocked my socks and now am consequently listening to Jai Ho, which is incredibly addicting), Animal Collective, and South Hill-ers.
10. Giving up soda for lent. Wish luck.
11. Wanting: to meet JD, a roadtrip over the summer if I'm not orienting the little freshmen into Ithaca, a cuddle (again) ;), to see Enchanted, Rent, Watchmen, and Corline over break.
12. Already planning for going to the flower show and maybe Catherine's on Sunday. And Chinatowning on Wednesday with a certain best friend.
13. Missing Pepper's Ghost. :(
14. Annoyed by a certain facebook stalker. I'm way too nice :<
15. Feeling nostalgic and nerdy. (I just looked back at my old xanga entries, oohhh memorrieess...)
16. Saving the world. :)

Over the weekend, we celebrated Christina's birthday by ordering Japanese and playing celebrities (aka best game ever). I got the food and was really happy to see the incredibly hot delivery guy that I had gotten one time before (I have now added him to my phone as "Hot Delivery Guy"). On Saturday, we went over to Hinzy's and played a lot of charade games and more celebrities. After that we went to Geoff's room and hung out for awhile, just talking about random stuff. On Sunday I did a lot of work, went to the first offical IC Scribes meeting (a lot of fun, but we still have a lot of work to do before it becomes as cool as Writer's Guild), and watched Once with Chris.

This week I look forward to studying a lot, doing various essays, and finally going on break on Friday after all my midterms (which are ALL on Friday- gross). And then Saturday I'll be home! :)

As it nears closer to break..

I am not inclined to work.
It's so bloody nice outside. Like, you don't even know how warm 36 feels right now. So nothing much to report for fun weekendish news, except we stayed in, watched the Oscars (<33333 HUGGHHH), and helped my friend Chris move from Towers to T3, where he is now their new RA. But since yesterday was so nice me and Mara went down to the Commons about 4ish and shopped around, and I decided to get my hair cut. It was like THE shadyist place in the world. First of all, it was down stairs.. and the handle to get down their was really rusty and awkward. It had those old fashioned red chairs that were definitely in Sweeney Todd. It was a little shifty but I reallllyyy wanted a haircut. Turns out the guys there are really nice. I still like the other place better, but that was closed. :/
Here's the new hair:

So after that crazy ordeal, me and Mara went in House of Shalimar and I got a new necklace and bought a present for Christina (today is her b-day!) and then we went to Brotcel, this foreign coffee place and I had a Chocolate Latte and I bought this amazing bread that I'm currently feasting on.

4 things. And a lizard.

As I sit here kinda bored, listening to the soundtrack of Doctor Who, I realize that I should probably be reading the last 40 or so pages of this amazingly boring book named The American, but I really do not want to. And it's Friday. Instead, I am writing here and simultaneously talking to people on AIM. So the weekend was nice, my friend Christina's boyfriend Matt and her friend Bree came to visit and we played games, went downtown (I got a sper cute bag, which has become my gym bag), and partayyedd over the weekend (we had a dance party in Rowland). It was SO FUN. I really liked Bree, she seems really cool and I hope she goes here.
Now, things I have been noticing:
1. It's fucking February 13th, where did the time go...
2. I feel a little left out sometimes.. idk why.
3. I'm a little bitchier now. Like we pretty much ditched this guy Kevin that was kinda part of our "group" and I don't feel one iota of guilt about it. He's really awkward and just kinda sits there at the dinner table with a blank expression on his face and doesn't really say anything.. Soo yah.
4. I miss having a boyfriend. I'm in desperate needs for a snog and a cuddle. Any takers ;)?
5. I made my friend Tori into a Whovian. And now in turn she's got me semi-addicted to Buffy. Shit who am I kidding. I am an addict. I love Angel and Spike like no one's business.
6. I am also hopelessly addicted to two websites. Ninjavideo and Neave. I could not live without them.
7. I'm kinda liking this guy in my building. I'm way too shy to talk to him. And I don't wanna be a stalker and hang around waiting for opportunities to talking to him *fail* But yesterday, we talked for awhile during a party for our building. Progress? Maybe.
8. The suck up in my English class may or may not be purposely staring at me and talking to me before and after class. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Looking forward to the weekend, I had 3 projects due all during the week and it took up a lot of time I needed to study for my test today for my Stars class. It's ok though because I feel I did pretty dang good on it. So I think tonight Amelia, Mara, and I are going to see Twilight (to make fun of it and possibly get torched by Robert Patterson lovers) and then come back and play some games or just hang out. But Saturday will be super fun coz all we're gonna do is eat candy and Warm Delights and watch chick flicks. It's gonna rooooooccccckkk.

pics!

Dear Blog, I'm sorry I've been neglecting you. Won't happen again. Love, Me.

As I sit here in my dorm listening to a strange combination of new music I bought from iTunes, I realized that my blog was lacking in attention.
There's been some other revelations as of late here:

1. I am officially 19. I don't really feel older, but I guess I am.. or something. I also feel very loved because my facebook is currently filled with people writing on my wall "Happy Birthday!!" and such like.

2. I looked at my previous entry and faintly remembered that I was formally going to write more on it, but totally forget now what I was going to write in the first place. So it was probably something along the lines of "We got a lot of snow, I love my Ithaca friends, and I'm sleepy and will go to bed now"

3. I really like exercising now. I do it almost every day, but Mondays and Thursdays are especially fun because a few of us usually go kickboxing and it's pretty intense but it always makes you feel really good after. I also found four further things:
1. I needed a sports bra. I got two at Target for 8 dollars. Horray for deals!
2. I lost weight, and can now fit successfully into a size 4
3. I'm a lot more energetic/ feel better all around.
4. Also found some really cool songs thanks to the mix in kickboxing that the leader plays. My favourite is "Soccer Practice" by Gay Pimp. Funny song.

4. I like my classes, for the most part (the work part is not so fun). Mon/ Wed/ Fri I have American Literature, Stars, Galaxies, and the Universe, and Media Literacy. On Tues/ Thurs I have Global Studies and Aging Studies. American Lit has a really cool teacher, but there's also this guy Edgar in my class who thinks he knows everything but he's waayyy off. Like for instance, we're reading Huck Finn, right? And everyone knows that the whole book is basically making fun of Southern hospitality, and the "King" and "Duke" are con men. But poor Edgar, he thinks the "King" and "Duke" are good people, and will wind up heros. He's in for a big surprise. But moving on, I love my Stars class because it's really chill, and the teacher is awesome but sometimes the big class size is not so helpful. Media Literacy has the same teacher as I had last semester in my Psych class. She's awesome. In Global Studies, we're reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, and it's a super amazing book that you all need to read. Awesome class. Aging class is cool too, the teacher is very bubbily and cute, and she gets everyone into it.

5. (Which I should have mentioned before but didn't) I totally forgot to write anything about my winter break. So instead of writing more of a novel then I intend to, I'm just gonna sum it up: Worked at Regal again, lots of fun times and boring ones too, the not so cool part of it was getting my car side-swiped while I was in work. Granted, it was foggy and you couldn't see but really, the person could have left a note. Oh well. Hung out with K-bo the most, of course. Also saw Amke, Kim (well her I work with, so that was fun), Becky, Catherine, Jaime, and visited HHS and hugged all my Guildians and talked to my fav teachers (Jones and Weiss, mostly). Saw Benjamin Button, Milk, Nothing But the Holidays, and Seven Pounds.

6. My birthday weekend was lots of fun. On Friday, we went downtown to Lost Dog (our favourite restaurant) and had some really good food. I had something called a Vooda-Ahi Burger but instead of meat, I had tofu. It was spicy and glorious and the mac and cheese on the side just made it all the much better. We ordered dessert and I had my favourite- The Geshia, it's cheesecake slices in a toasted crust with raspberry over it. SOO GOODDD. After we went back to our rooms and changed into dancing clothes and then Mara and Christina called and said they had to make us look all pretty. So Amelia, Hinzy, and I went over to Towers and Mara styled my hair and Hinzy did my makeup. We met the boys and went to the gay club, Oasis. It was a little dull at first coz there wasn't a lot of people there but it got a lot busier and was much better. We all danced our little hearts out. Good times. On Saturday, we hung in Chris' room and watched Zoolander, played Apples to Apples and a few other games, and hung out. On Sunday, we watched the Super Bowl in Emerson (really big room with TVs). Until we got a little bored and it became much more crowded, then we went back to do homework and after that, Amelia and I ran to East Tower to catch the rest of the game with Mara, Christina, and Chris and watch the hour-long Office after it. It was a pretty epic ending, with the really long field goal. But The Office, that was one of THE funniest episodes ever we all laughed so hard, and sighed at Jim's proclamation of love and then went home. On Monday (my actual birthday) me and Chris went kickboxing and then we went to late night at Towers. I was happy to learn that this also meant that breakfast foods were being served. SCOORREE. I also brought the cake Mom sent via a birthday box (Harry and David) and after we ate and talked a little, we feasted on the cake. It was reaaallllyyy good. Just the thing to kick my chocolate craving for the day, and it had gotten a little warm because the plates were warm. With milk and my friends, it was a good day. After dinner and cake, we went to Chris and Geoff's room and Chris had a present for me- my own "song"! Well, he used Britney Spears' song "Gimme More" and put things about me into it. It was really funny and sweet. All the good ones have to be gay...

7. I have the coolest friends ever. Mara made me a card with The Doctor and me on it, it's so cool. Christina and Hinzy each made me a card too- Christina's was a simple little yellow card but a nice little message on the inside, Hinzy used her knowledge of Japanese and awesome personality to make me a super-cool card. And I got one from my roomie, Amelia too, it's a really cool Beatles card (we both love them) and she also got me Truffle candy at Target. Dangerous Amelia, dangerous. Geoff also made me one where he attempted to draw a character from Doctor Who. And you heard about Chris'. :)

8. I am sleepy and should do work for tomorrow. I will leave you with some pretty pictures from the weekend :) Actually, I'll do it on another post..
