Act II: Roommates and Random Adventures.

So we still had the rest of the day and till 8 before all the rest of the freshies moved into Ithaca, but my roommate Amelia wasn't coming till 1 or 2, so I went to buy books for my classes at the Bookstore (there went $500..), grabbed a smoothie (which are so goddamn good, I've been trying to taste them all), and my parents called to ask if they could drop some stuff off for me (they were staying somewhat in the area) and I said yes, So they came and gave me a longer ethernet cable (cos obviously Ithaca doesn't want people to have one on each side for convieniance, no,NOT AT ALL), and a new multi-plug in thinger (I don't know their name..) and we revisited the bookstore to get a sweatshirt and a wallet for me and multiple Ithaca-branded products for the parents. When I got back, Amelia was already there, setting up her side. I volunteered to take out her recycling, since I kinda knew where it was..
After the parents and I helped her move in, we sort of settled in, got her ID, and prepared to go down to the welcome barbecue at 5 (it takes a lot of time to move in!) called E Komo Mai (god knows what that means). So we ventured down to the fields outside the Campus Center and prepared for the feast. We grabbed plates and I was happy to learn that veggie burgers were being served (they weren't all that great but still, I was really hungry) and piled fruits, salads (I took a lot, it looked unloved), and some chips. We were attempting to fund a place to sit when I saw my friend Chris and his roommate Geoff (offically the two coolest gay guys ever) who were towing around my other friends Mara, Christina, Stephanie (aka Hinzy), and her roomie Brandie from Orientation, also trying to find a place to sit, we ended up sitting on the grass and talking, eventually getting two other guys, Alex and Pat, to join us. So we all sort of hung out after, eventually Geoff, Chris, Mara, and Christina all went back to Towers (dorms) and me, Amelia, Hinzy, Alex, and Pat were left. After watching a condensed version of Knocked Up in Alex's room, we desided to go downtown and get some snacks from Wegmans. It was a longer journey then we anticipated and we were all completely exhusted after we got there but after getting some goodies (I bought sushi and a big bottle of water), we were pretty ready to go up the Ithaca hill. NEVER AGAIN will I do that. It was so hard to get up and we were all practically dying by the time we got to the entrance. But we made it.. but after that, I have a fond place in my heart for the bus system here. I don't think I'll be attempting that hilly feat again. Anywho, things I learned from the experience: 1. Wegmans is a magical place 2. The muffins are SO GOOD. 3. Ithaca's hill is very easy to go down but going up will never again be attempted (good news: I've got Ithaca thighs) 4. Midnight adventures are really fun but also very dark in unlit patches.
The next day we had a pretty packed schedule: at 11 was Convocation which is basically a welcome to school thing, at 12 we had another picnic, at 3 was the Dean's Welcome and after that we met with our adviors. After all that, we sort of hung out, had dinner, went on a bookstore excursion, went to our floor meetings (I can saftely say that all my 3rd floor homies are REALLY nice) and went to a comedian at 8 (he was really funny, his name was Robbie Printz). The next day was a little less hectic, at 11 we had our discussion groups about our summer reading book, Persepolis, which was divided but what seminar we had. So I got to meet my fellow Exploring a Global Challengers (?). Me and Amelia then went to a Study Abroad informational meeting and both desided on at least one in the Ithaca London Center. We then played a number of fun games Chris knows and had dinner and went to a screening of the movie Persepolis (based off the books) at 8. We all desided after hanging a little more that we would all get a move on sleeping before classes began.
